If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be a stand-up comic but the idea of telling jokes to a roomful of strangers fills you with fear, a new course being run by 2k Tiger together with Maria Kempinska MBE, the queen of the comedy clubs, will help you become a better public speaker by mastering the art of stand-up techniques.
Maria is the founder and owner of the iconic Jongleurs Comedy Clubs. She first learned how to do stand-up in front of a crowd of 200 people and discovered that fear breeds creativity and energy. Maria believes in the power of humour to overcome nerves and stress – humour makes for great communication. She says, “When you overcome all the obstacles to presenting on stage as a stand-up, your mental approach to public speaking changes forever”.
Adopt the techniques used by stand-ups for improved public speaking
By adopting the techniques used by stand-ups, you will massively improve your public speaking and presentation skills – essential for anyone in business, whether you’re addressing a small team or a room full of conference delegates, and for anyone who has to speak at big occasions such as weddings.
It is well-known that comedy and humour have a positive impact on mental health and wellbeing – laughter is a natural remedy for stress. So, by learning to use humour effectively you will be benefiting your own mental health and that of your audience too.
Make your own live performance debut
The six-week course focuses on topics such as physical deportment, performance skills, microphone technique, voice control, and content mastery, including how and when to use humour.
As part of the course, you will be making your own live performance debut in front of others, putting into practice the skills you’ve acquired on the course.
The new course begins on Monday 28th February from 6.30 – 8.30 pm at The Pilot, 56 Wellesley Road, Chiswick W4 4BZ, followed by weekly sessions (four online, one live) from 7.00 – 8.30 pm.
